History of Institute of Management Consultants Hong Kong
Our History

Founded in 2000, the Institute of Management Consultants Hong Kong (IMCHK) is a distinguished member institute of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), a global network representing over 60,000 professionals across 48 countries and regions. Amidst the strategic opportunities presented by China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), Hong Kong—a global hub renowned for its international outlook and free trade principles—is poised to see rising demand for skilled management consultants in both public and private sectors.
As the certifying body for Certified Management Consultants (CMCs) in Hong Kong and Macau, IMCHK upholds the highest professional standards of quality, objectivity, independence, and integrity. We are committed to fostering the growth of our members through tailored services, events, and resources, empowering them to innovate, adapt, and seize emerging opportunities. In doing so, IMCHK advances the broader mission of elevating management consulting as a catalyst for sustainable socio-economic progress.

IMCHK advocates for broader recognition of the profession and champions continuous improvement to align with global best practices. We collaborate closely with government entities, leading consulting firms, and clients across Hong Kong and the GBA to promote standardization in consultant selection, methodologies, and ethical practices. Our initiatives include professional development programs, dispute resolution frameworks, and rigorous adherence to disciplinary and ethical guidelines. Through these efforts, IMCHK strengthens the credibility of the consulting industry while driving value for businesses and communities alike.
Vision And Mission
Our Vision

To bring forth a new level of recognition by our clients for the profession so that members of the Institute are preferred over others and demanded by clients at all times.
Our Mission

Be the voice of the management consultancy profession locally with the community and internationally with other ICMCI member institutes.
Convert an 'avocation' into a 'profession' by:
- Developing and updating a body of knowledge;
- Developing and updating a competency model for certification of individuals and firms, to have a common denominator worldwide for management consultants;
- Orchestrating ongoing development of management consultants and interaction/exchange of ideas and skills locally and globally; and
- Specifying a code of conduct with a worldwide common denominator.
